September 2018 Wrap-Up | The Dreaded Reading Slump

Happy Sunday everyone! Before I get into my September wrap up, I want to thank all of you for following my blog. I surpassed 300 followers this month and I’m ecstatic about that. It’s not about the numbers, but I’m grateful for all the support I’ve received. Thank you. Now, for the wrap up.

What I Read In September

september wrap up

September wasn’t my best reading month. I wasn’t very enthusiastic or motivated to read; however, I managed to finish 4 books. It doesn’t feel like I did, but I did. I hope October is better.

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone by J.K. Rowling: I made the decision to re-read Harry Potter at the end of August before JKR’s problematic retcon and misrepresentation of Asian women. She irks my soul and I wish she wasn’t at the helm of Harry Potter. You can read my review from my last re-read HERE.

Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo: I read somewhere that reading an old favorite can help break a reading slump. I listened to the audiobook hoping it would motivate me to read. I loved the audiobook and I missed these characters deeply. Gave this 5/5 stars.

The Chamber of Secrets by J.K. Rowling: The Chamber of Secrets is my least favorite book in this series. Check out my review from last fall HERE. 4.5/5 stars

The Belles by Dhonielle Clayton: This was an interesting and unique story about beauty commodification with hints of fantasy. Exquisite world-building and lush writing. Check out 4 star my review HERE.

September Highlights

Amazon Music: A work colleague mentioned that Amazon has better playlists than Spotify. I decided to give the free trial a chance and my colleague was right. The playlists are amazing.

Softbox Light: My best friend gave me this lighting kit last year for my birthday. I rediscovered that I owned this item at the beginning of the month. It’s great for taking photos after dark.

What books did you finish this month? What were some of  your favorite things this month? Let me know in the comments.
