2018 Reading Goals Update

Hi friends! I wanted to do this check-in months ago, but never quite got around to it because I moved in June. With two months left in the year, I thought this would be a great time to review my 2018 reading goals and see where I am. I hope I haven’t fallen behind too much because I want to wrap up my reading goals this month. Let’s see how I’ve done these past 10 months.

For reference, these were my 2018 goals:

  • Goodreads: Read 50 books
  • Unread Books: Read 1-2 books per month from my unread shelf
  • Diversity: Read 1 book per month written by a person of color
  • Genre: Read 1 book per month from a genre I don’t typically read

So, how am I doing?

Goal #1: Goodreads Challenge
Surprisingly, I completed my Goodreads challenge in August. In the midst of grad school, new job and moving, I did it.  I’m a star. I deserve a big cookie or cupcake.

Goal #2: Unread Books
Umm…let’s not talk about this goal. My unread shelf has grown. As a matter of fact, I need to get another bookshelf because the new books I’ve acquired this year don’t fit on my designated TBR shelf. Let’s move on and pretend this doesn’t exist.

Goal #3: Diversity
I’ve read a total of 20 books by authors of color. I would’ve loved for this number to be higher. There are a few books with POC characters that aren’t included because the authors are not POC. October is the only month where I didn’t read a single book written by a person of color. Here’s a month-by-month breakdown:

Goal #4: Genre
This goal is a complete joke. Here’s a measly breakdown of the 68 books I’ve read so far:

Copy of books read (1)

As you can see, an overwhelming majority of the books I’ve read were young adult. The genres that weren’t statistically significant were: Mystery (1), Non-Fiction (2), and Women’s Fiction (1). If I take it a step further, this how the YA category breaks down:

Copy of books read (2)Basically, this was a fancy way of me telling you that 99% of the books I read are STILL fantasy. I have failed this goal. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I think I’ve done pretty well this year with two of my goals considering how stressful this year has been. I don’t set TBRs. However, I will try to pick up a few books from my TBR shelf. Maybe. I won’t make any promises.

How are you doing with your 2018 goals? Let me know in the comments! Thanks for reading!signature (6)
