Reading Challenges: January 2019 Update

Hey everyone! Before I get into this post, I want to apologize for my delay in responding to your comments. Work has been really busy and because of that I’m a little behind. Thank you for reading my posts and your comments. I love them.

In December, I outlined my 2019 goals in this post and mentioned that I would provide updates in my monthly wrap-ups. Well, while drafting my monthly wrap up, I realized the post was just too long. So to fix that issue, I’ve decided to do monthly updates for my reading challenges in a separate post. Without further ado, here’s an update on my progress so far.

My goals:

  1. Read one book (Goodreads)
  2. Read owned books published in 2018 or earlier (Beat the Backlist)
  3. Read 12 winners from the 2018 Goodreads Choice Awards (Goodreads Choice Awards)

Goal #1: Goodreads

I completed this goal so…go me! I set my goal at one book because I wanted to take it easy this year. I’m primarily using the Goodreads reading challenge to track my 2019 reads.

Goal #2: Beat the Backlist

In an effort to reduce the number of unread books on my shelves, I decided to participate in Novel Knight’s Beat the Backlist challenge and made a TBR with 25 of the books I own. This month I read 5 books from that list and didn’t unhaul or DNF any books from this TBR.

Goal #3: Goodreads Choice Awards

I challenged myself to read broadly and save money with this goal. This month, I read two Goodreads Awards 2018 winners: The Great Alone by Kristin Hannah (review) and The Kiss Quotient by Helen Hoang. They won best historical fiction and romance, respectively. I borrowed the ebook for The Great Alone from the library. The Kiss Quotient is previously owned. I haven’t read the other books that were nominated in those categories, but these two books lived up to their hype.

So, how are you doing with your 2019 reading goals? Let me know in the comments! Thanks for reading!
