August 2019 Wrap Up

Hey everyone! I haven’t done a wrap up since April because wrap ups just weren’t working for me, but I’ve decided to write one for August because I’ve been away for a while.

August was a busy month at work, but I managed to read eight books and DNF’d one book. My average rating was 3.75, which is a little bit lower than last August. I participated in the NEWTs readathon and read a total of 6 books for that.

I completed the NEWTs about two weeks into the readathon. I read two Kasie West books for the first time during the readathon. I didn’t LOVE her books, but I understand why she’s such a popular author. Overall, August was a decent reading month. Without further ado, here are the August books and ratings.

58. Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard by Rick Riordan – 4 stars
59. Let Me Hear a Rhyme by Tiffany D. Jackson – 4 stars*
61. American Panda by Gloria Chao – 4 stars
62. Love, Life, and the List by Kasie West – 3.5 stars
63. The Female of the Species by Mindy McGinnis  – 4 stars*
64. Maybe This Time by Kasie West – 3 stars
65. Godsgrave by Jay Kristoff – 4 stars
66. Darkdawn by Jay Kristoff – 3.5 stars*
67. Jade City by Fonda Lee – DNF @ 212 pages*

*The Female of the Species and Let Me Hear a Rhyme were my two favorite reads this month. Unfortunately, Jade City was rather disappointing. I have a review coming for Darkdawn. You can find reviews for the other books on this list on my Goodreads.

Review Copies

I hauled the most books I’ve ever hauled this month. By some weird stroke of luck (thank you literary gods because I have no idea how this happened), a few publishers reach out to me this month and sent me a few books to review/feature on social media.

Purchased Copies

I rarely buy books anymore because I borrow everything from the library. However, Book Outlet and Barnes & Noble had a few sales that I couldn’t resist and I had trade credit at my local used bookstore so I bought a few things.

Jonas Brothers – I saw the Jonas Brothers in concert earlier this month and they were absolutely amazing!

Peaky Blinders – I don’t watch a lot of TV but when I do, I go all in. I binged watch Peaky Blinders last weekend before the season 5 premiere and got my entire life! I haven’t stopped talking about this show and I can’t recommend it enough, especially if you love Six of Crows. The similarities between Kaz Brekker and Thomas Shelby is uncanny.

How was your August? What was your favorite book? Any favorite things? Let me know in the comments. Thanks so much for reading!

  1. I’ve seen a couple of short video on Peaky Blinders and it definitely seems like my type of show! I’ve also heard a lot of great things about The Female of Species and I’m sure I will enjoyed it, but I need to be in the right mood for it. I hope you’ll have a fantastic September!

  2. I have Kingdom of Souls and Wargirls on the docket for this month and next, looking forward to them! Too bad you couldn’t get into Jade City, it’s been one of my favorites this year. Congrats on 8 books and the blessings of the literary gods!

  3. Congrats on finishing your NEWTs ahead of time! That’s amazing! ❤ I'm so glad you had a nice reading month, and it makes me so happy to see that American Panda was a 4 star read for you! I adore that novel so much, and I cannot wait to read Gloria Chao's latest book, Our Wayward Fate soon! Happy reading, sweets! ❤
